"It is the policy of Centurion to continually provide and maintain a high standard of working conditions and practices that will enable all employees to work in a safe working environment."
Centurion is committed to providing a healthy and safe work place for all employees and visitors. We recognise the importance of developing and maintaining safe work procedures and working conditions. These goals can best be achieved through joint involvement and consultation between management, employees and their safety representatives at all levels.
Fatigue Management
The aim for Centurion is to ensure, its employees and
sub-contractors abide by and operate within the legislative guidelines and
standards for safe operations in Fatigue Management.
Control strategies at Centurion are addressed
in the Fatigue Management Plan and managed in accordance with the requirements
of the OSH Regulations.
Management will ensure that a driver
who is required to drive commercial vehicles will:
- Maintain a record of work time and breaks and that this record is kept current (using Fatigue Management Trip Sheets)
- Drive the commercial vehicle in accordance with the operating standard
- Is certified by a medical practitioner (at least once every 3 years) as fit to drive
- Comply with the requirements of the Centurion Alcohol and other Drugs Policy
Line haul staff will check at least 10% of all fatigue sheets
from trips generated at Centurion. This will be done by randomly checking the
sheets to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of the fatigue
management regulations.
Centurion Transport commercial vehicle drivers have a
responsibility to operate in accordance with the Code of Practice
requirements with which include:
- Ensuring they are fit to work - not use or be under the influence of
alcohol or drugs while in charge or operating any equipment
- Comply with trip plans, schedules and inform relevant managers if they
have been held up or are behind schedule
- Maintain accurate trip records
- Take regular breaks on the long haul routes
- Stop work if they have reasonable cause to believe that to continue
could cause harm to themselves or others
